Go For Broke National Education Center Releases 20th Anniversary Cookbook
New collection has favorite recipes from home cooks, famous chefs

TORRANCE, CA (June 6, 2009)– From cucumber tsukemono to tamale pie, Go For Broke National Education Center's (GFBNEC) latest recipe book has something to satisfy just about everybody. The 20th Anniversary Veterans' Cookbook is the nonprofit GFBNEC's third recipe collection. It's available now for $20.00 or, for GFBNEC members, $18.00, plus $6.00 shipping. The cookbooks went on sale on June 6, 2009 at GFBNEC's anniversary celebration at the Go For Broke Monument in the Little Tokyo District of Los Angeles.

All one has to do to buy a copy is call 310-222-5702 or go to the Go For Broke National Education Center's website at www.goforbroke.org and click on 20th Anniversary Veterans' Cookbook. The release of this 350-recipe collection is especially welcomed by fans of the previous two keepsake cookbooks, both sold out long ago.

Every recipe in The 20th Anniversary Veterans' Cookbook was either collected or contributed by the 18 members of the volunteer GFBNEC cookbook committee. While recipes such as the one for Barbecued Miso Chicken were given to the project by accomplished home cooks, others were courtesy of famous chefs. For example, Chef Chris Yeo provided a recipe for Crab Risotto with Black Bean Sauce, Roy Yamaguchi offered his savory Braised Short Ribs and Sam Choy shared the secrets of his Ahi Poke Moco.

Starting with a collection of Asian favorites, the book contains starters, soups, salads and sides, main dishes and desserts. As a bonus, there's a Helpful Hints section in the back that includes Microwave Tips and ends with a full page of easy-to-use Common Cooking Substitutions. It also features 150 archival photos of veterans of the 100th Infantry Battalion, 442nd Regimental Combat Team, Military Intelligence Service and other Japanese Americans who were soldiers on World War II battlefields and of events and activities photographed over GFBNEC's 20 years.

Cookbook committee members, all wives of the veterans, are Teri Fujikawa, Diana Herrst, Beverly Iba, Christie Ichikawa, Mildred Ikemoto, Mary Karatsu, Emi Murata, Amy Nakazawa, Chiz Ohira, Ellie Ozawa, Chuckie Seki, Bertha Shimazu, Kimi Taira, Elma Takahashi, Teresa Takahashi, Sumi Tochihara, Ivy Toma and Sue Watanabe. Staff project manager for the project is Yumi Yukawa. Additional information about the Go For Broke National Education Center and its programs is available at www.goforbroke.org.
