Evening of Aloha is an evening of gratitude

PresidentWell, it's that time of year again - Evening of Aloha Gala Dinner. In many ways it is the highlight of the year - a time when our family and friends come together to remember, celebrate and show their appreciation for our Nisei veterans of World War II. This year's theme of "Okage sama de - Because of you, I am" perfectly reflects our feeling of gratitude for how our Nisei WWII veterans changed the political and cultural landscape of our nation.

17th Annual Evening of Aloha Gala dinner set for Saturday, September 8th

Go For Broke National Education Center's (GFBNEC) major annual fundraiser, the Evening of Aloha, will take place on September 8th at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel & Suites in Downtown Los Angeles. With exquisite meals prepared by celebrity chefs and a heartfelt and moving program, this will be an evening to remember. The evening's program, tied together by the theme "Okage Sama De: Because of you, I Am," will be highlighted by those that will be honored and recognized for their service to the both the organization and the nation.

'H.R. 442' commemorates veterans' role in postwar redress movement

In commemoration of the 30th anniversary of President Ronald Reagan signing the Civil Liberties Act of 1988, Go For Broke National Education Center (GFBNEC) debuted on Aug. 4 a temporary exhibition, "H.R.442: Nisei Veterans and the Fight for Civil Liberties," alongside the Japanese American National Museum's refresh of the "Common Ground: The Heart of Community" exhibition.

'Courage and Compassion' opens at Historic Fort Snelling in Minnesota

The Twin Cities Japanese American Citizens League and Historic Fort Snelling partnered with Go For Broke National Education Center (GFBNEC) to host "Courage and Compassion" through Sept. 3 at Historic Fort Snelling's visitor center.

MIS Sword exhibition at GFBNEC

The special exhibition "Nikkei Samurai: Japanese Swords and the Military Intelligence Service" opened on July 24 at Go For Broke National Education Center (GFBNEC) featuring rare armaments from Japan's feudal era through modern times.

Go For Broke Monument area receives plaza upgrade

Visitors to the Go For Broke Monument in Little Tokyo will notice new lights and new paving in the area leading up to the Monument starting this month.

Construction began on June 25. Most of the construction was finished in time for the Los Angeles Tanabata Festival on Aug. 11-12, which used the canopy area near the Monument.

California Senate honors 442nd RCT veterans

Senate honors
The California State Senate honored veterans of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team on June 25 with a resolution commemorating the 75th anniversary of the formation of the famed Japanese American World War II unit.

Senate President Pro Tempore Toni Atkins (D-San Diego) presented the resolution to eight Nisei veterans of the 442nd RCT to a standing ovation from senators, staff and a full gallery of guests in the Senate Chambers of the state capitol building.
