GO FOR BROKE NATIONAL EDUCATION CENTER APPLAUDS FILIPINO WWII VETERANS’ CONGRESSIONAL GOLD MEDAL ACT

(LOS ANGELES, CA - December 2, 2016) - Go For Broke National Education Center (GFBNEC) today applauded Congress for passing the Filipino Veterans of World War II Congressional Gold Medal Act, which recognizes the valor and bravery of Filipino veterans who fought for the United States during World War II. More than 200,000 Filipinos and Filipino Americans served during WWII.

"On behalf of our Nisei WWII veterans, we salute our Filipino comrades in arms for their courage and selflessness," Dr. Mitchell Maki, GFBNEC’s president and chief executive officer, said. "The Congressional Gold Medal, the nation’s highest civilian honor, is a long-overdue recognition of the Filipino soldiers who fought and sacrificed to defend our democracy. It serves as a clear reminder today that patriotism truly knows no color, race or religion."

In 2011, Congress awarded the Congressional Gold Medal to Japanese American soldiers in the segregated 100th Infantry Battalion, 442nd Regimental Combat Team and Military Intelligence Service.
