Go For Broke National Education Center 19th Annual Evening of Aloha Virtual Gala

Saturday, November 14, 2020
4:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. (PST)

“Thank-a-Veteran” Pre-Show begins at 3:45 P.M.
On www.goforbroke.org, Facebook & YouTube

Overview

In keeping with the spirit of community, family and sharing of stories, the annual Gala will incorporate the unique traditions of Evening of Aloha (EOA), honoring the Nisei (second-generation Japanese American) veterans of WWII, while keeping the safety of our communities in top of mind.

Featuring:

Dr. Mitchell Maki, CEO & President
David Ono, ABC 7 Eyewitness News Anchor & Filmmaker

This year’s EOA will retain all the celebratory hallmarks that make this event a true community highlight. In addition to the “In Memoriam” Veteran Acknowledgment, GFBNEC 2020 Student Essay & Poetry Contest winners, the Gala will introduce special video elements of GFBNEC’s current and upcoming online programming series that explore the multi-faceted perspectives of the Nisei veteran story from within and beyond the Japanese American community. New this year, a “Living Nisei WWII Veteran Photo Tribute” which includes photos of veterans from across the nation, “Thank-a-Veteran” digital ads and GFBNEC Partners Roll Call.

Proceeds from this event will directly support GFBNEC’s new educational initiatives, including its expanded national outreach, enhanced online and social media presence and dynamic online programming to engage younger, more diverse audiences.

Living Nisei WWII Veteran Photo Tribute

Yoshio “Yosh” Nakamura, 442nd Regimental Combat Team in 1943 (left) and 2019 (right)

One of the Evening of Aloha’s most treasured features is the in-person living veteran recognition on stage. This year, to take advantage of an enhanced virtual audience, GFBNEC has put out a request in September to all Nisei veteran organizations nationwide to submit an in-service military and a current photo of a living Nisei WWII veteran. All veteran photos will be proudly displayed during the EOA program. Final submission deadline is Friday, October 30, 2020.
