Term Definition
Yellow Peril A term used as early as the mid-1600s but primarily around the late 1800s to early 1900s to describe the alleged economic, social and moral “threat” that the global movement of Asians, particularly Chinese, Japanese and Southeast Asians, posed to Western civilizations. Prior to World War II, the phrase was used to refer to Japanese imperial expansion and the danger that Japan posed to the US.
