Thank you to all of those who supported and participated in the 1st Annual GFBNEC Backyard Summer Fest!
Close to 300 attendees participated in this casual, fun-filled evening with live music, food, games and more. This intergenerational and multicultural public event was held on Saturday, June 24 at Nishi Hongwanji Buddhist Temple in downtown Los Angeles’ historic Little Tokyo. The Summer Fest was part of Go For Broke National Education Center’s inaugural National Torchbearer Convening which brought together young adults from Chicago, Denver, Hawai’i, San Francisco and Vermont for a four-day gathering of workshops, panel discussions and learning. This first-time event provided an ideal opportunity to bring together the LA Torchbearers with the National Torchbearer Fellows, GFBNEC supporters and the local community.

The Summer Fest is a new event hosted by the GFBNEC LA Torchbearers who are dedicated to sharing the Go For Broke Spirit and legacy of the Japanese American soldiers of WWII. Admission: $20 Pre-sale; $25 at door
Online pre-sale tickets and orders must be recieved at the GFBNEC office by 5:00 P.M. on Friday, June 23.

The Summer Fest will feature entertainment by DJ Andrew Takahashi, musicians from YO! Records and Michael Murata & Miko Shudo plus the culinary delights of Far Bar, East Los Musubi and Chris Ono/JACCC.
Back by popular demand, the evening will also include “The Last Spamurai” Spam Musubi Eating Contest. Sign-up can be made in advance at torchbearers@goforbroke.org
